Job Highlights

CIR is retrofitting approximately 27,000 light fixtures in various buildings throughout the North Campus with new, energy-efficient ballasts and lamps for the Interior Lighting Upgrades portion of the project.  For the Spine HVAC Upgrades, CIR is providing electrical work for the installation of approximately 450 variable air volume (VAV) dampers in the HVAC system to reduce the need for heating and air conditioning in the buildings along the academic spine.  CIR is installing approximately 3,000 new, energy-efficient light fixtures in these buildings as well.

To minimize the disruption of students, faculty and staff, all of the work is being completed during the evening hours.  Just over a month into the project, there was already a noticeable improvement in the quantity and quality of light within the completed spaces, an added bonus to the tremendous energy savings that will result from these upgrades.

Energy Savings

According to PRES Energy, these upgrades are estimated to save more than $377,000 in annual energy costs; a number that will likely increase with rising energy rates.
