JANUARY 2010 - ILLUMINATING

Mon, Jan 25th 2010 08:15 am

CIR recently increased our commitment to the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) by becoming a Copper Level Sustaining Member.  The IES is the entity that sets the Lighting Recommended Practices which includes, but is not limited to, the recommendation of footcandle levels.   An organization developed over a century ago to set standards for the emerging new electrical product - the light bulb; the IES Mission is to advance knowledge and to disseminate information for the improvement of the lighted environment to the benefit of society.  The IES is an international organization recognized the world over as the Lighting Authority.

Membership is composed of Lighting Professionals, Engineers, Architects, Interior Designers, Lighting Manufacturers and Rep's., Electrical Contractors, Utilities and Electrical Suppliers and Distributors.

CIR has most recently been represented in the IES by Amy Clifford who became a member in August of 1999.  Since that time she has actively pursued a membership role which included local Section Past President, Vice President and Membership Chair.  Amy also represented the Buffalo Section at the Regional Level of the Society for many of those years.

The local Section is very active within the IES; not only filling their Regional and Society Level obligations but by supporting members who volunteer for Committees or Conferences at these elevated levels.  In fact, a Past President of the Society hailed originally from the Buffalo Section.

Monthly Technical Meetings are offered from September to June in addition to well known Social Events such as the Holiday Party at Salvatore's Italian Gardens and the Annual Golf Outing.  Membership is a great way to network and improve your lighting knowledge, as well as offer leadership opportunities.  If you are interested in what the IES may offer you or your employees, please don't hesitate to contact Amy at 716-362-5000; or apply online at http://www.iesna.org/.
